21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Starting tomorrow, LifeGate is embarking on a 21 Day Prayer and Fasting Challenge.  Our goal over the next few weeks is to start off 2014 by raising our level of spiritual intensity and commitment to the Jesus.  Every day during the challenge we're going to be posting some encouraging thoughts and teachings on the power of prayer and fasting.

This morning I asked our congregation to commit to do two things.  First, take some extra time in prayer over the next three weeks.  If you don't pray on a consistent basis, then make a commitment to spend 10 minutes in prayer a day.  If you spend 20-30 minutes in devotional time, then over the next three weeks, take an hour in your day and spend that time with the Lord.

Secondly, I want to challenge you to fast.  Fasting in its simplest definition means denying yourself to seek God.  Most fasting in the Bible involves giving up food or changing your diet in someway.  Fasting brings some added intensity to our prayer.

I believe that as we give the first part of 2014 to the Lord in fasting and prayer, He will do some amazing things in our lives and on behalf of our church.  We'll see God do some eternally significant things in the lives of our friends and family and in our city over the next few months because of the time we spend seeking God over the next three weeks.
